How to cite.
The CIA, the edition, the address.
Cite the Central Intelligence Agency as the author and the edition you read, then give the address where you read it here.
01A country entry
Every country page has a citation ready to copy. It follows this pattern:
Central Intelligence Agency. “Ukraine.” The World Factbook 2025. Archived by The Factbook, thefactbook.org/ukraine/2025.
Use the name the edition published, which can differ from today’s name. The 1995 edition, for example, calls the Democratic Republic of the Congo “Zaire”.
02An edition as a whole
Central Intelligence Agency. The World Factbook 2001. Archived by The Factbook, thefactbook.org/editions/2001.
03Addresses stay put
Edition addresses such as /ukraine/1992 always show that edition and will not change. The address without a year, such as /ukraine, always shows the latest edition, so cite the address with the year.
04Corrections
If you rely on an entry listed on the corrections page, it is worth saying so. The text itself is never edited.
